Day 10: Friday, December 13, 2019: Cape Horn, Chile

Sunrise: 4:47 am; Sunset: 11:05 pm

Awoke this morning around 5:00 am and we were headed due west along the Beagle Channel. On the north side of the channel is Tierra del Fuego (land of fire), Argentina. On the south side is Chile. We were going to the Chile port of Puerto Williams where we were going to clear customs and take on a pilot to navigate us through the Magellan Straits.

I went for breakfast and then to the bow to capture some shots of the city of Puerto Williams.

Then I returned to my cabin. The captain came over the PA at 8:00 am and announced that this was a technical stop and as soon as we cleared customs, we would turn around and go back the way we came. When we did turnaround, I was able to get some better shots of the city.

We then proceeded due east. Yesterday, they announced that we would be passing Cape Horn around 4:00 pm. Of course they also said we would have no internet connection, but so far, it is functioning.

Tierra del Fuego

We arrived at Cape Horn at 4:00 pm. It is in the low 40's with about a 30 mph wind out of the west. The captain says this is about as nice of weather as one could hope for at this place.

Day 9: Thursday, December 12, 2019: Day at Sea

A sea day. Took some pictures off our veranda. Dressed for dinner in the Italian restaurant.
